Storage Manufacturers Enter NVR Market

by John Honovich, IP Video Market Info posted on May 15, 2009 About John Contact John

Competition in the NVR market is heating up with a number of new options for video surveillance professionals to consider. In the last few months, well funded startups Intransa and Pivot3 have both launched NVR solutions.

This is a major shift, as a year ago, these companies were only providing storage, requiring the use of 3rd party servers. Now, both companies are offering their own integrated sever and storage solution.

This addresses a key negative in the use of software only and is part of the general trend of appliances making a comeback in the video surveillance market. With the growth of IP video, I expect these offerings to attract serious consideration though they are unlikely to be competitive for smaller deployments and will face strong competition for very large scale sites.
