BRS Labs Layoffs and Skepticism Mount

by John Honovich, IP Video Market Info posted on Dec 05, 2009 About John Contact John

Revelations of problems and concerns with video analytics up-start BRS Labs is mounting. An investigative report by the Houston Chronicle on BRS Labs reveals:

  • In October, "BRS laid off 10 employees who worked on product development to cut costs" (despite $47 Million in investment)
  • The company has "has earned less than $500,000 in revenue" and the "company's largest sale so far totaled $78,000" (again, despite $47 Million in investment)
  • Two of BRS Labs CEO's previous start-ups went out of business with one violating SEC procedures and the other "accused of being unfairly favored for the contract by the city's then technology director"

Be Careful About BRS Labs

Integrators and end users should be careful about accepting the extreme claims of BRS Labs. As the Houston Chronicle report shows, layoffs, poor revenue (even for the video analytics market) and a questionable track record signal significant risk.
